Tax Refund Email Phishing Scam!
Tax Refund Email Phishing Scam!
Even though tax season is no longer in full rush, these emails are still being seen. 2008 had scams about the stimulus packages, and it appears 2009 has them too. There are emails going around sending users to phishing sites or to fill out forms and send personal information to the "IRS", some even containing the IRS logo. However, these are not legtiimate. The IRS never initiates contact with taxpayers via e-mail if it has to do with your account or private information. If a mistake was made on your tax return, or if you have an unexpected refund coming, the IRS will notify you with a letter sent through the U.S. mail.
